Raising children in a digital world

*** NOTE: This event has been CANCELLED - due to current health advice this event is cancelled *** With the rapid rise in devices, screens, apps and games, children are having a very different exposure to technology than their parents – so how can we relate to this huge generational shift in the use of devices? The City of Kalamunda is inviting parents and carers with children aged 4-12 to a special information session on 24 March 2020 about children’s exposure to technology and how to handle it.

Stirk Park gets storm water health upgrade

The City of Kalamunda is serious about protecting our precious waterways with the installation this month of a gross pollutant trap in Stirk Park. The trap, also known as a baffle box, will greatly improve the quality of storm water entering Stirk Park and the pond, and the public will be able to see it working through the see-through lid.

City to Investigate Solar Farm Potential

The City of Kalamunda will investigate the feasibility of local solar farms off the back of positive community feedback to its 2019 Environmental Sustainability Initiatives survey. Following Council endorsement of the idea, the City will now appoint a consultant to complete a feasibility study and report findings by mid-2020.

The City of Kalamunda is encouraging residents and schools to participate in a habitat enhancement project to create homes for local micro bats that it is hoped will reduce local mosquito numbers.

The 2020/2021 City of Kalamunda’s Community Event Donation and Sponsorship Program is now open, with grants of up to $20,000 available.

New Community Centre Construction Commences

The City of Kalamunda has welcomed the commencement of construction on the new $6.6 million Kalamunda Community Centre with a turning of the sod ceremony on 31 January 2020. Premier Mark McGowan joined with local MP Mathew Hughes, Mayor Margaret Thomas, Councillors, representatives from Lotterywest, Pindan, the Kalamunda Community Learning Centre and the reference group to mark the momentous occasion.

Contract awarded to deliver Kalamunda Community Centre build

The City of Kalamunda has awarded the contract to deliver the construction of the Kalamunda Community Centre at Jorgensen Park to Pindan Contracting following a competitive tender process. The contract covers the building, car parking improvements and associated infrastructure.
