Prepare your application

For your application to be shortlisted, it must demonstrate that you meet the minimum criteria for the position.

1. Read the Advertisement and the Position Description.  The Position Description is available on our website under the job listing in Career Opportunities.
2. Create your Covering Letter (max. 2 pages); include response to the Selection Criteria (if required, see advertisement); and
3. Update your Curriculum Vitae (Resume), ensure it includes:
• Full name
• Daytime contact number
• Email address
• Home address
• Work history (most recent first)
• Education and training history
• Contact details for at least two referees that can comment on your recent work history from a supervisory capacity.

Prepare for the interview

• Research the City of Kalamunda by reviewing details on our website.
• Write down any questions you would like to ask regarding the role or conditions of employment.

Attending the Interview

1. Bring along any supporting documents, if required.
2. Arrive 15 minutes early to read through the interview questions and prepare your responses.
3. The recruitment panel consists of at least two members. Interviews follow a set format to ensure equity and fairness to each applicant.
4. Interviews range from 30 minutes to 1 hour in duration depending on the role.

Further Assessment

• After the interview, People Services may contact your referees to conduct a Reference Check
• For some roles a medical and/or drug & alcohol screen maybe undertaken
• For some senior or specialty roles further selection testing may be undertaken such as skills assessment tests, emotional intelligence tests and/or cognitive ability tests.
• For some roles a police check and/or Working with Children Check will be required.
• All successful candidates will need to provide 100 points of ID and proof of their working rights in Australia.

Outcome

• The successful candidate will be verbally offered the position, on acceptance they are given a written Offer of Employment.
• Once they accept, the other interviewed candidates will be advised by phone call and all other candidates will be advised by email.

Salary: Level 8 $107,092.59 to $113,233.91 per annum, plus superannuation

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and qualified planner to gain exposure to the challenges of a diverse range of planning matters and help shape the future land use planning direction for the City.

About this Opportunity
You’ll be supporting the Coordinator Strategic Planning in respect to the initiation, planning, delivery and review of a range of strategic projects in line with City’s Strategic Community Plan and Corporate Business Plan. The diversity of planning projects and issues, leadership opportunities, and strong professional learning culture provide an environment for growth and development in this role.

• Lead high-quality customer service and engagement with the community, developers, and government stakeholders.
• Provide expert planning advice and contribute to positive, collaborative relationships across the organisation.
• Deliver strategic land use planning projects, including assessing complex proposals and preparing planning strategies, policies and structure plans.
• Drive innovation and improvements in planning processes and project outcomes.
• Manage consultants and contribute to Council briefings and presentations.
• Support and mentor Strategic Planning team members, fostering a culture of learning and high performance.
• Provide expert guidance across the organisation on planning-related matters and contribute to cross-functional initiatives.

1. Tertiary qualifications as a Town Planner or related field and relevant experience in the planning profession.
2. Demonstrated ability to lead the successful management of complex and significant strategic land use planning projects.
3. Demonstrated strong interpersonal, collaboration, and negotiation skills within multidisciplinary environments, with a proven ability to facilitate and advocate for successful outcomes across planning projects, land development, and policy matters. 
4. Demonstrated ability to apply project management approaches to effectively progress tasks and projects in a dynamic professional context. 
5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and practically apply relevant land use planning and development legislation, regulations, policy and guiding documents to progress and influence the City’s strategic projects and interests, including in the assessment of development, subdivision, strategic planning proposals, and policy formulation.
6. Demonstrated ability to present advice, recommendations, instruction, and research findings across all standard forms of business communication.
