About this Opportunity
As the Manager Place & Community Experience, you will champion a whole-of-City placemaking approach that unlocks local strengths, builds community pride, and drives economic vibrancy. You will oversee the Community & Place and Economic & Experience portfolio areas, leading a multidisciplinary team that delivers:
- Placemaking, activation, and local vibrancy initiatives
- Arts, culture, events, tourism, and economic development programs
- Reconciliation, social inclusion, and public health and wellbeing outcomes
- Community engagement, partnerships, storytelling, and experience design
- Support for the Kalamunda Performing Arts Centre, Zig Zag Gallery, History Village, Visitor Centre, and events programming
You will bring together data, local insight, and lived experience to shape strategic direction, influence City strategies and projects, and ensure every place is connected, welcoming, and meaningful.

About You
You are a passionate, proactive, and community minded leader who thrives on creativity, collaboration, and making things happen.
You will have:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Community Development, Marketing, Business, Tourism, Place / Place Management or a related field.
- Extensive experience in a similar leadership or management role in placemaking, community development, culture, tourism, events, or a related area.
- A passion for creating vibrant, welcoming places through a collaborative, proactive, and solutions focused mindset.
Selection Criteria
- Extensive experience in a similar leadership or management role.

- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing strategic and operational plans, including the setting and monitoring of goals and managing budgets
- Demonstrated experience in working with, and leveraging community assets including people as well as the natural and built environment
- Experience in advocating for community driven outcomes within and outside of the organisation to increase understanding and to gain support and resources.
- Demonstrated experience in maintaining excellent stakeholder relationships with diverse community groups, government and businesses
- Demonstrated experience in leading organisational change, managing resistance and imbedding sustainable improvements.
- Strong project management skills.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
Hours of Work
Monday to Friday, 75 hours per fortnight with potential for a flexible work arrangement option such as flexitime, a 9-day fortnight or 19-day month is available. On occasion you may be required to work outside of normal business hours.
Location
This position is located at the City of Kalamunda Admin Building, with travel required to venues within the City of Kalamunda.
