An exciting opportunity has become available for a full-time Waste Education & Projects Officer to join the City in a varied and challenging role. You’ll be an enthusiastic team player with an interest in waste minimisation, resource recovery,
and recycling.
About this Opportunity
This position will ensure that the City of Kalamunda is fulfilling its commitment, and is compliant with, Western Australia’s Waste Strategy, Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery (WARR) Strategy 2030, and the City’s Waste Plan. The role will
work closely with stakeholder groups to raise awareness of, and increase, participation in recycling and resource recovery programs and take a leadership role within the community promoting the City’s efforts in waste minimisation.
Key skills and experience required for this position:
- Implement actions to align the City of Kalamunda with the Waste Avoidance & Resource Recovery (WARR) Strategy 2030 – WA’s Waste Strategy.
- Implement actions identified in the Regional Waste Education Strategy
- Address community waste contamination issues and develop targeted projects to manage and reduce contamination.
- Manage and expand recycling and resource recovery initiatives, including the City’s recycling hubs.
- Respond to community enquiries and provide accurate waste service information.
- Coordinate waste education and resource recovery projects from planning through implementation and review.
- Present advice, instruction, guidance, and research findings, both verbally and in writing, for executive management and the community.
- Investigate and manage grant applications and acquittals.
- Manage allocated budget to maintain quality and standard of work.
- Manage and maintain all waste and recycling information sources across various media.
- Develop, implement, and monitor effective measures of community awareness of resource recovery matters.
- Develop and provide waste and recycling education activities, programs, and materials for varied stakeholder groups to improve waste minimisation.
Hours of Work
This is a permanent, full-time position working Monday to Friday, 75 hours per fortnight.
About the Benefits
This position offers a Level 6 salary being $93,063.28 – $100,087.65 per annum (depending on experience and skill level), plus superannuation.
Flexible work arrangements or the option for a rostered day off fortnightly or monthly is available.

- Highly developed written communication skills including, report writing, correspondence, and the development of promotional materials for various stakeholders.
