The City of Kalamunda have awarded the Senior Community Local Hero Award for July to Peter Hanson, outgoing and long-term President of Kalamunda & Districts Basketball Association (KDBA).

City Promotes Importance of Being a Responsible Pet Owner
The City of Kalamunda dog and cat registration renewal reminders will be issued next month. Mayor Margaret Thomas said with this in mind it was timely to remind all pet owners to do their bit to ensure both their pets and people stay safe.

Celebrating a new, safer intersection, connecting the community
The City of Kalamunda is excited to be announcing the completion of works at the intersection of Hale Road and Woolworths Drive, Forrestfield. Mayor Margaret Thomas opened the intersection at an official ceremony earlier this morning, acknowledging the Whadjuk Noongar people, the traditional owners and custodians of the land.

Are you up for the Challenge? The City of Kalamunda’s Lesmurdie Library is holding a fun ‘Big Brick Build Off LEGO® Challenge this Saturday and are calling for all Blokes - Dads, Grandads, Carer’s, Big Brothers, Uncles to bring their kids of all ages to test their LEGO® inventiveness.

Act now before we lose one of our endemic species, the quenda. The City of Kalamunda is encouraging residents to join the 2020 Spring Quenda Count, an environmental study facilitated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Australia and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA).

Classroom heroes working on the Railway Heritage Trail
Excited students from the Kalamunda Secondary Education Support Centre (KSESC) have been participating in weekly environmental education and conservation activities along the Railway Heritage Trail. The interactive lessons included history sessions, rubbish and fire risk management, and flora and fauna identification.

Perth Hills prepares for emergencies
The Perth Hills Preparedness Project aims to build resiliency and prepare local communities for emergency situations. The City of Kalamunda is proud to be collaborating in this Red Cross initiative, in partnership with the Shire of Mundaring and the City of Swan. The Project will deliver a variety of resiliency building programs over the next two years, providing lots of opportunities for community members to engage and become involved.

Photographer uncovers new species in the City of Kalamunda
Five new species of jumping spider have just been uncovered in Kalamunda National Park and Korung National Park in the Perth Hills by photographer, Holly Martin. The discoveries, still to be scientifically verified, have been identified via her photographs by Australian Spider expert and author of "The Field Guide to Spiders of Australia" Robert Whyte.
