Grounds for Celebration: Rock Breaking Kicks off Ray Owen Oval Expansion Works
The City of Kalamunda has marked a significant milestone as part of the Ray Owen Oval Expansion Project with rock breaking and turf removal well underway.
Works include expansion of the oval, redevelopment of turf surface and installation of new oval floodlighting. These upgrades will facilitate club growth and enhance playing experience.
Mayor Margaret Thomas reflected on the significance of the project for the local sporting community, stating “Ray Owen is home to our local sporting clubs, who are the fabric of our community. Many residents have memories of either playing or seeing their children participate in club sports at the Reserve.”
“These upgrades mark an important stage in bringing our vision for this space to life. A vision that sees Ray Owen Reserve as the premier sporting destination for the region and a space that allows our clubs to grow and thrive.”
The upgrades also include the upgrade of the Ray Owen Pavilion, completed last year, which features additional storage, a universally accessible toilet, and two new unisex changerooms, helping clubs provide inclusive facilities and accommodate the growing participation of women in AFL and cricket.
The oval expansion and changeroom upgrades are supported through a $5 million investment as part of the WA Government’s PlayOn WA, an exciting initiative to deliver 2,030 community infrastructure items across WA by 2030.
The City continues to advocate for the remaining components of the Ray Owen Master Plan, with the construction of new indoor courts for basketball and netball being a key priority.
