Young Artist Awards

Works that have been selected for exhibition will be further assessed by a panel of three arts professionals for the following award categories:

Judging

The Young Artist Awards are judged by a panel of judges featuring arts professionals, including a representative from the City of Kalamunda’s Arts Advisory Committee as well as a representative from the City of Kalamunda's Youth Services Team who have chosen the theme for the awards. The judge’s decision is final, however young people are welcome to request feedback from the judges about their work.

The Young Artist Awards Exhibition Opening Night is held at the Zig Zag Gallery in Kalamunda.

This is a FREE event, and all applicants, family, friends and other supporters are invited to this celebration of young artists. The evening will feature live music, drinks and nibbles. You must reserve a ticket to attend this evening.

NOTE:  This is an all-ages event, the exhibition opening night will be alcohol free.

Sales of Works

This exhibition is targeted towards up-and-coming young artists in the community. To engage in the full experience artists who would like to sell their artworks will be able to. Artworks submitted are not required to be made available for sale and if you would like to retain your work you can. When submitting, there is a section where you have the ability to select your own price for the piece. If you are uncertain as to how to price your work, please get in touch. 

Do you need some extra development as an artist surrounding preparation for an exhibition?  

Young people entering the Awards as well as their families and/or friends are welcome to attend this FREE workshop.

REGISTER YOUR ATTENDANCE HERE

1. All exhibitors must complete the Application Entry Form.
2. You must submit a high-quality image of your artwork with your application. Failing to do so, your application may not be successful.
3. Entries are limited to two per artist only. All works are eligible for the first prize.
4. Applicants are aged between 11 and 25 years and live, work, volunteer or study in the City of Kalamunda
5. The artwork must be an original work of the artist and not contravene any copyright law.
6. Artwork must include some of the art practices - Line, shape, forms, space, colour, texture, contrast, rhythm, proportion, balance, unity, emphasis, movement, variety
7. All artworks must be suitably presented and ready for exhibition. Non-standard display equipment specific too the artwork must be supplied by the artist. Special requirements must be discussed with the Gallery Curator prior to installation. Any works not filling this criteria will be returned to the exhibitor.
   
8. 2D works are not to exceed 1100mm x 1100mm. All 2D works must include suitable framing to hang the artwork for public display using D rings or similar. Photographic clip frames and single string cords or wire will not be accepted.
9. 3D works are not to exceed 1m² or weigh more than 25kg. Where a plinth or base are required, if your work is a successful entry, please consult with the Gallery Curator.
10. The work must be packaged and clearly labelled with your name, contact details, title and artist statement.
11. Entrants will agree to digital images being created of your work for promotional purposes and credit given where possible.
12. Artists must recognise that their entries are on public display in a public venue and are therefore subject to the risk of damage due to unforeseen circumstances and actions of the public. Therefore, it is the artist’s responsibility to provide insurance for their work. Entrants will not hold the organisers, its officials, volunteers, employers, agents and public servants, responsible for any claims of whatever kind or nature to any person or to any property arising out of or in conjunction with the Lions Club of Kalamunda Art Awards and the City of Kalamunda.
    
13. All artworks will be judged. The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
14. Sale of Works will be available during the exhibition. Artworks submitted are not required to be made available for sale and if you would like to retain your work you can. When submitting, there is a section where you have the ability to select your own price for the piece or mark this as not for sale.
