Place + People + City of Kalamunda
(Shaping Places Together)

Placemaking

At the City of Kalamunda, we take a placemaking approach, working with our community to shape places that reflect local identity, support wellbeing, and bring people together.

Placemaking is about understanding the unique identity of each locality and working alongside the community to bring that identity to life.

By listening to local voices, building connections and supporting community-led ideas, we create places that feel welcoming, vibrant and reflective of the people who live, work and spend time there.

For staff, placemaking helps us design and deliver services, projects and engagement in ways that truly match community needs — making our work more targeted, informed and impactful.

Our Place Approach — The Five Pillars

Our place-based work is guided by five core pillars that help us understand each community, listen to local voices and design actions that reflect local identity, strengths and needs.

Place Reference Groups

Place Reference Groups represent a diverse cross-section of each community and act as a sounding board.

They help to:

  • Provide early feedback on strategy and local priorities
  • Shape planning and implementation
  • Strengthen understanding of place-specific needs
  • Influence both strategy and infrastructure investment
