Time Feel: the subjective impression of time and the emotional quality of a rhythm.
Time Feel is a new exhibition by local artist Basil Antonas. Created over two years, these oil on canvas artworks were inspired by the sounds of contemporary jazz. From a single soulful note to a powerful cacophony, the spontaneous, improvised creative sounds push the limits of self-expression.
The result is a series of large energy filled abstract landscapes with intricate details and what at first seem like random joyous shapes.
Based in Perth, Western Australia, Basil has exhibited in solo exhibitions and group shows locally and internationally. Basil paints with expression and movement - catalysed by exploring spontaneous and refined tactile forms and the use of colour to capture a sense of place or to create landscapes unknown. Using oils and acrylics across canvas and board, his works hold fine textural details which give them depth and tangibility.
