Hon. Ken Wyatt announced as Freeman of the City of Kalamunda
The City of Kalamunda proudly bestowed the title of Freeman upon the Hon. Ken Wyatt, in recognition of his outstanding and extensive contributions to the community, at today’s annual Thank A Volunteer Day luncheon held at the Kalamunda Community Centre.
The award, presented by Mayor Margaret Thomas, marks a significant moment in the City's history, as the first Freeman title since 2021 and the 25th overall with the inaugural Freeman of the City awarded to Ray Owen in 1966.
The Freeman of the City is the highest accolade that Council can bestow upon an individual, reserved for those who have demonstrated exemplary, ongoing, and extensive commitment to the community.
During today’s presentation, Mayor Thomas said, “Hon. Ken Wyatt’s accomplishments serve as a testament to his leadership, resilience, and unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of Australians.
“His dedication to volunteer work aligns perfectly with the values cherished by the City and his remarkable service, spanning decades, has undeniably benefited both the local and wider communities, particularly in the realms of education and health outcomes for Aboriginal People.
“Ken is also a longtime patron of the Kalamunda RSL and as the Member for Hasluck, he not only represented his constituents with distinction but also became the longest-serving Member for the electorate, winning four consecutive election– 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2019.”
In 1996, Hon. Ken Wyatt was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for his exceptional service to Aboriginal health. The City of Kalamunda extends its heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Ken Wyatt for his outstanding service and for being a shining example of community leadership.
