City Promotes Importance of Being a Responsible Pet Owner
The City of Kalamunda dog and cat registration renewal reminders will be issued next month. Mayor Margaret Thomas said with this in mind it was timely to remind all pet owners to do their bit to ensure both their pets and people stay safe.
“Being a responsible pet owner means exercising, training, caring for, microchipping, desexing and registering your dog or cat,” Cr Thomas said.
“Don’t forget the City offers a few ways to register your dog or cat from yearly to lifetime so if you’re looking at getting a new family member or it’s time to re-register make sure you explore the options available.”
The Cat Act 2011 requires the identification, registration and sterilisation of domestic cats, and gives local governments the power to administer and enforce the legislation.
Under the Dog Act 1976 all dogs are required to be microchipped and registered. Dog owners should also be aware of laws covering menacing and dangerous dogs.
All dog attack complaints should be reported to the City as soon as possible.
The City investigates all attack and harassment complaints and considers all of the circumstances leading up to and during an incident.
“Most people do the right thing however, anyone with pets needs to take responsibility,” Cr Thomas said.
