City Applauds New WA-Hiking Strategy
The City of Kalamunda has welcomed this week’s announcement of a 10-year WA Hiking Strategy by the State Government.
Mayor Margaret Thomas said the Australian-first strategy recognises the massive community interest in bushwalking and trail running and sets a framework for sustainable growth over the next decade.
“The alignment of this new strategy with our vision for how people enjoy local recreational spaces is incredible,” Cr Thomas said.
“The Perth Hills boasts hundreds of kilometres of bushwalking trails that co-exists with mountain biking and horse trails.
“We’ve been working with local enthusiasts, clubs and groups for more than 20 years on our sustainable trail loops and how they integrate with the community and have seen numbers boom in recent years.”
Cr Thomas said the City would now look at funding opportunities offered in the WA Hiking Strategy.
“Our beautiful outdoor recreational spaces are enjoyed by thousands of locals and tourists each year and we look forward to seeing how we can work with and complement the State Government’s guidelines.”
