Mayor Margaret Thomas said since Phase 3 of the WA Roadmap to ease COVID-19 restrictions came into effect last week, the local community has continued to play its part by honouring the physical distancing guidelines and hygiene requirements.

“I’m delighted restrictions are continuing to ease,” Cr Thomas said. “The community has responded brilliantly so far and it was so heartening to see so many people supporting venues and businesses that reopened last week.”

“Seeing our cultural and recreational facilities also able to reopen is absolutely brilliant. Our re-opening exhibition at the Zig Zag Gallery is a partnership with local businesses Greenhouse Gallery and Fair & Co. Featuring locally crafted artworks, 'Grounded' is an exhibition not to be missed.”

“We expect to see the Theatre reopen in July, with refurbishments currently underway.”

Phase 3 allows for gatherings of 100 people per single undivided space and up to 300 people in a venue where there are multiple (divided) spaces. In both instances there must be an allowance of 2 metres per person.

The City’s libraries, playgrounds, skate parks, community halls  and outdoor fitness equipment are all available for use.

Cr Thomas reminds the community to support local. “It is vital we shop local and use local services,” she said. “If you’re going to a restaurant or cafe - book ahead to avoid disappointment and if you’re heading to the gym check if you need to bring your own equipment to exercise classes.”

Businesses are also reminded to take advantage of the City’s free business support program. “The City of Kalamunda is committed to supporting our local small businesses through this challenging time dealing with COVID-19.  The City have partnered with Business Station to deliver FREE confidential advisory sessions to provide to address concerns such as the ability to continue trading, paying staff wages and long-term viability.”
