City welcomes new Mayor
Newly announced City of Kalamunda Mayor, Cr Margaret Thomas, has pledged to draw on her understanding of the community and its residents to guide Council over her next two-years as Mayor.
The mayoral announcement was made after a Councillor vote on Monday 21 October where the City welcomed seven Councillors following the weekend’s local government elections. Cr Dylan O’Connor was named the City’s new Deputy Mayor.
Mayor Thomas thanked past Councillors for their contributions to the City and welcomed returning Councillors Cr John Giardina (South East Ward) and Cr Kathy Ritchie (North Ward) and Cr Brooke O’Donnell (South West Ward); along with newly elected
Councillors Cr Sue Bilich (North West Ward); Cr Lisa Cooper (North West Ward); Cr Janelle Sewell (South East Ward); and Cr Mary Cannon (South West Ward). She also acknowledged the work of previous Mayor, Cr John Giardina, before focusing on
what comes next.
“This City has many significant growth and financial challenges ahead and we need to ensure expenditure is tightly controlled and aligned with the City’s vision, deliver great customer service and advocate strongly for external funding to
build new facilities,”
“I want to lead and be part of a Council that demonstrates patience, virtue and goodwill and aspires to be high-performing. I believe the City of Kalamunda is one of the best places to live, work and visit and I know by working together we will
keep it that way. “
“I am looking forward to serving the community and thank my fellow Councillors for entrusting me with the responsibility.”
