Kalamunda Loop Trail One Step Closer
The City of Kalamunda is progressing with the development of the Kalamunda Loop Trail, in the popular Mountain Biking Region. With over 40km of fully signed single-track, the Kalamunda Trails area is the most popular MTB destination in WA. It is only a 40 minutes’ drive from the centre of Perth, and is situated in both picturesque National Park and State Forest.

With over 40km of fully signed single-track, the Kalamunda Trails area is the most popular MTB destination in WA. It is only a 40 minutes’ drive from the centre of Perth, and is situated in both picturesque National Park and State Forest.
The ambitious City of Kalamunda, in conjunction with the Kalamunda Mountain Bike Collective and the Western Trails Alliance, is determined to put the area on the map and has identified a key opportunity to realise unrivalled potential for a high quality trails experience just 30 minutes from the Perth CBD.
Mayor John Giardina said, “More purpose-built trails and facilities desperately needed to meet demand from 50,000+ mountain bikers and walkers using Kalamunda’s trails every year.”
“Mountain biking is one of the fastest growing recreation, sport and tourism activities, all seeking more places to ride. We have some amazing trails out off Mundaring Weir Road but there is currently a lack of developed linkages between current activity and opportunities for local economic benefit.”
The new Kalamunda Loop Trail aims to create a trails loop through enhanced linkage of trails between Kalamunda, Bickley and Pickering Brook, Munda Biddi Trail, Kalamunda Circuit and back to Kalamunda Town Centre for various trail users (walkers/cyclists).
The second stage of the project aims to link Kalamunda Town Centre to the Mundaring Railway Reserve Heritage Trail.
“We are currently seeking a $600,000 commitment to complete the Loop trail and call on the State and Federal Governments to recognise the importance of this project, which also bring significant environmental benefits by ensuring clearly marked authorised trails – which helps to ensure riders stay on track and do not damage surrounding bushland.”
“The new trail will be an iconic and sustainable 35km loop trail that caters for local, national and international walkers and cyclists of all ages and abilities, delivering more sustainable jobs through new business opportunities in tourism, hospitality, equipment hire, guiding & associated activities.”
“It will also value add and assist to further diversification of existing businesses, services and products – making for a stronger more vibrant tourism industry
Kalamunda and Perth Hills Region are seen as the premier trails destination in WA, with potential on completion to move towards a national/international facility with airport proximity.
