The City of Kalamunda has developed its first ever Local Environment Strategy – ‘Kalamunda Clean and Green’ and is calling on the community for comment. Council adopted the draft, for the purposes of public advertising, on Tuesday 26 February 2019.

Kalamunda Clean and Green provides the framework to manage environmental pressures and achieve even better sustainable practices over the next decade. It will assist in protecting the cherished landscape character of Kalamunda and guide improvements in the City’s own operations, its work with stakeholders and community groups.

Mayor John Giardina said, “I would like to thank Staff and the Kalamunda Environmental Advisory Committee for their work on the document to date.”

“The project has been a true grass roots story, with the City undertaking visioning and community consultation throughout 2017/2018 on what the document should look and feel like.”

“The City received input from more than 150 community members, leading to the production of the current draft, which aims to reflect the values the community have for their cultural and natural environment.”

“Throughout the many workshops, survey feedback and conversations that we undertook to prepare the Local Environment Strategy, you told us many times that the City needs to demonstrate stronger leadership in environmental management and decision making, and this has become the focus.”

“It focuses the City’s policy, planning and work on protecting our highly valued green spaces, reducing waste and enhancing and celebrating our local environment. It also identifies how our community wish to share the journey, by being better informed, having a say and taking ownership for the environment.”

The Strategy will provide for quality environmental policy and a clear direction for decision-making for good environmental outcomes. It will assist the City with an integrated and coordinated approach for the delivery of environmental services.
