Vision for Kalamunda Town Centre Approved by WAPC
The City of Kalamunda is thrilled to announce final approval of the Kalamunda Activity Centre Precinct Structure Plan by the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC), a landmark step toward revitalising the town centre into a more vibrant, walkable and welcoming destination.
The plan offers a clear path to revitalise the town centre, creating a welcoming space that combines tradition with modern amenities.
Focus areas under the plan include activating Haynes Street, transforming Central Mall into a dining hub, expanding retail and residential opportunities, improving civic and cultural spaces, and enhancing parking and pedestrian accessibility. Together, these improvements aim to create a cohesive and thriving town centre, offering revitalised spaces for the community to connect and enjoy.
Shaped through comprehensive engagement with the community, businesses and key stakeholders, the plan reflects a shared ambition to reinforce Kalamunda’s identity, improve day-to-day amenity and support local economic vitality. The Structure Plan provides a clear framework to guide future development and responds to long-standing challenges including ageing infrastructure, limited housing diversity and competition from nearby centres.
Mayor Margaret Thomas emphasised the importance of the plan in bringing the community’s vision to life. “This plan brings together everything our community values; our heritage, our environment, and our local businesses, and combines it with a clear plan for growth and improvement. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this plan will have on our town centre, making it a place where people want to live, work, shop, and spend their time.”
The plan is supported by Built Form Design Guidelines and a Landscape Master Plan, setting the tone for thoughtful, high-quality improvements to both public and private spaces.
