The first concert in our exciting new Singer Songwriter Series. Matt Cal describes music as like breathing; it’s something that if he chooses to stop doing it, it happens anyway.
“For me music is expressed as songcraft. Stories, some fabled, some truth, some reflect my own personal journey through life including the big things, but also I love to write about the little things that happen along the way as we stop to hopefully smell the roses…”
Citing Paul Kelly, Neil Young and Vance Joy as influences, Matt weaves a charming, relaxed nature through blues influenced acoustic folk ballads.
Recent highlights for Matt include supporting rising Australian star Steph Strings, touring WA with Australia’s leading roots song-writer and slide guitarist Jeff Lang (to which Kalamunda hosted a sold-out show in 2020), and hosting Kalamunda’s Songwriters Round Table to rave reviews in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Matt will be joined on stage by guest musicians to help him lead us through over two decades of his songcraft.
