Kalamunda History Village

  • Largest folk museum in Australia - Kalamunda History Village

Kalamunda History Village offers a range of popular educational guided and self-guided tour options.

We offer a range of primary school local history options in a fun and educational environment, our education program for 2025 include:

  • New and Old: Pre-primary & Year 1. A display of new and older items with a discussion and guessing game on items, identifying some objects and whether they are a modern or old fashioned.
  • Junior Games: Pre-primary & Year 1. Learn and play a variety of old fashioned games, including colonial style dress ups.
  • Laundry: All years. On the verandah of an old cottage they will have the opportunity to wash with a scrubbing board and hand wringer, peg out clothes and iron with a flat iron. 
  • Post Office & Film: All years. Communication timeline handson with type writers and telephones plus a short film about family life in the Perth Hills, set in 1902 called “My Family Cottage”. The story is told through the eyes of Katie who is 11 years old, we will follow her through a typical early settler’s week. The film “Among the Hardwoods” about the early timber industry for upper primary years.
  • Old Fashioned Toys & Games: All years. Learn and play a variety of old fashioned games.
  • Chores: All years. Students participate in chores such as gristing wheat, stencilling, and helping in the kitchen. Look at visual displays of the local industries and transport.
  • Making Peg People: Years 1, 2 & 3. Toy making activity using old washing pegs.
  • Making do: Years 4 & 5. Recycling as we know it. Children discuss how difficult it was to get to the shops, and how limited in choice you had. They will discuss using different materials for alternative purposes. Discover how children made their own games and rag rugs.
