Odysseys is a celebration of the creativity and talent from the artistic community who were born before 1971, who live or practise in the City of Kalamunda. Featuring a variety of artistic media and skills, this exhibition showcases the work of people from all walks of life that are seasoned by experience and well-practised in their craft, who may be drawing on years of travels and adventures. Challenging the concept of what it means to be senior, this exhibition asks local artists to share their insights and wisdom and reflect on a rapidly changing world from a mature mindset. The exhibition will be held at the Zig Zag Gallery in Kalamunda, and there are few changes to the format this year so read ahead to be fully informed.
This year, Odysseys is non-competitive, making it a friendly showcase of local art, without a formal judging process or announcement of prizes - apart from a People's Choice Award. All entrants are eligible to win the People's Choice, and a small prize will be given to one lucky voter and the artist who receives the most votes for their piece.
Whilst every effort will be made to show all work submitted, there will be a light selective process that favours pieces that have not previously been exhibited in the Zig Zag Gallery, and with a focus on artworks that are well presented, technically proficient and thorough in conveying their intended message. This pre-selection process is carried out by the arts and culture team at the City of Kalamunda, and is based on the following criteria:
Artists may submit more than one artwork, and each artwork is evaluated individually. We will do our best to ensure that there is equal opportunity and at least one work per artist, and the overall display will be decided based on gallery capacity.
All artworks should be delivered to the Zig Zag Gallery at 50 Railway Road, Kalamunda between 10am and 4pm on Monday, 19 October. We cannot accept latecomers
At the conclusion of the exhibition artists must arrange the collection of their unsold artworks between 10am 4pm, Monday, 16 November. We cannot accept responsibility for artworks that are not collected on time collect the work on your behalf, just let us know.
