Polyphagous shot-hole borer - update September 2024

Polyphagous shot-hole borer - update September 2024

10 September 2024 10:23 AM

The polyphagous shot-hole borer has been detected in City of Kalamunda. DPIRD quarantine area will be expanded including City of Kalamunda in the quarantine zone as of 5/9/2024.

Current QA covers the entire Perth Metropolitan area, extending across 30 local government areas. The QA encompasses two zones.

Zone A covers an area with high numbers of infested trees and where intensive control activities such as tree removal are underway. This zone will have more restrictions on the movement of high-risk materials.

Zone B covers an area with fewer or no infested trees and where heightened surveillance is underway to identify and control new infestations. This zone will help create a buffer between areas of high infestations and the rest of WA, further protecting WA’s growing areas.  City of Kalamunda is included in the Zone B.

The Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer (PSHB) is currently the focus of a national eradication program, with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) leading the response efforts.

For the latest updates and detailed information on this program, please visit: www.agric.wa.gov.au/borer

The City of Kalamunda is actively supporting DPIRD in its efforts, advocating for increased community education, including local workshops and individual property inspections with their officers to assist orchardists and the wider community.
