The Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) will consider a proposed amendment to the Metropolitan Region Scheme (MRS) for Pickering Brook at its meeting on Wednesday 28 January 2026 (9.00am).
The agenda item relates to a proposal to rezone around 14 hectares of land from Rural to Urban to enable future residential development.
The site has previously been identified as a Planning Investigation Area in the North-east Sub-Regional Planning Framework. It was also investigated by a State Government Taskforce, with outcomes incorporated into the Pickering Brook and Surrounds Sustainability and Tourism Strategy (Part 1 – Pickering Brook Townsite).
The Framework identified the site as an Urban Investigation area, noting that matters such as bushfire risk and the protection of the Middle Helena Catchment Drinking Water Resource would need to be addressed,
The City of Kalamunda will be making a deputation to the WAPC.
