Protecting Wildlife, Supporting Pet Owners – Cat Trapping Begins at Juniper Way

28 August 2025 8:48 AM

The City of Kalamunda has launched a new campaign to promote responsible cat ownership and safeguard our local wildlife.

In response to recent reports of wildlife deaths in bushland reserves - including at Juniper Way Reserve, Forrestfield - the City will begin targeted feral cat trapping in this area.

Juniper Way Reserve is a designated Cat Prohibited Area under the Cat Local Law 2023. Cats are not allowed to enter this area at any time, even when accompanied by their owner.

This trapping is part of a wider, ongoing program that will occur twice a year across different reserves and high-risk areas.

What does this mean for cat owners?

We love cats — and we want to help you care for them while protecting our unique bushland. Under the Cat Local Law, all cat owners must:

  • Register, microchip, and sterilise their pets
  • Ensure cats wear a collar and ID tag

If a cat is found in a prohibited area or creating a nuisance, it may be trapped and impounded. To be safe we recommend owners keep their cats contained to their property (especially at night).
