Exhibition Opening | Chirriger Kwilla
05 December 2025 : 6:00 PM - 05 December 2025 : 9:00 PM
You are invited to the opening of Chirriger Kwilla – An Exploration of Noongar Totems, an intergenerational exhibition bringing together celebrated Noongar artist Peter Farmer Snr and his son Peter Farmer Jnr.
Presenting new works on canvas created especially for this show, at its heart are the artists’ deeply personal connections to their ancestral totems, the Chirriger (Blue Wren) and the Kwilla (Great White Shark), alongside the element totem Kaarl (Fire). Totems are guides connecting us to culture, language, and lineage. Through their art, the Farmers invite audiences to reflect on the strength of Noongar identity and its evolving place within contemporary art today.
The opening evening will feature a Welcome to Country and traditional dance, followed by reflections from both artists and the curator of Zig Zag Gallery. Guests are invited to view the exhibition, enjoy refreshments and engage in conversation with the artists about the cultural stories, inspirations and meanings that shape their works.
This exhibition is proudly supported by the WA Government’s Department of Creative Industries, Tourism, and Sport (CITS).
