Author talk with Nathan Hobby
01 August 2023 : 6:00 PM - 01 August 2023 : 7:00 PM
Join author Nathan Hobby at Lesmurdie Library for a talk about his new award winning book 'The Red Witch'.
Novelist Katharine Susannah Prichard (1883-1969), notorious communist and brilliant chronicler of Australian ways of life, was the red witch of the Perth hills for fifty years.
Nathan Hobby tells the story of her dramatic and resilient life - she is is radicalised by the Great War, wins fame for her novels Coonardoo, Haxby's Circus, and the Goldfields trilogy, and marries war hero Hugo Throssell VC only to lose him to suicide.
The Red Witch was an eight year quest which took the author from Prichard's cottage in Greenmount to Emerald, Yarram and archives in Melbourne, Canberra and Perth.
Winner of WA Premier's Book of the Year Award, it was described by the Sydney Morning Herald as 'an eloquent and powerful tracing of the life of one of Australia’s once most celebrated writers.”
