Shire of Kalamunda has been involved in the Future Proofing Perth’s Eastern Region – Adapting to Climate Change project since 2007/08, when the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) and its member Councils identified climate change as a key emerging issue.
The Regional Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan (2009-2013) (RCCAAP) was endorsed by the EMRC Council in September 2009. The plan is divided into 10 priority risk areas and forms a strategy to assist the EMRC member Councils to adapt to the anticipated effects of climate change. Many of the RCCAAP actions have already been implemented by EMRC on behalf of member Councils.

The Shire in conjunction within EMRC is currently preparing a Local Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan (LCCAAP), to compliment the regional plan. This will allow the Shire to implement climate change adaptation actions within its local area, to avoid, manage or reduce the consequences of anticipated climate events.
