Emergency Management SMS System

Emergency Management SMS System

The City of Kalamunda has established an important new Emergency Management SMS System to help notify residents of the latest bushfire safety and emergency management information. The service is opt-in and interested residents need to provide the City with their relevant mobile and contact details which will be entered into a database for messages to be disseminated as required.  Residents will need to provide the City with their full name, residential address and mobile telephone number, with only one mobile to be registered per property.

The type of information that will be sent includes notification of: severe Fire Danger Ratings; Total Fire Bans and Harvest and Movement Bans; and other specific information relating to emergency management, emergency incidents, evacuation centres and the Hazard Management Agency.

The SMS system is for out-bound messages only and is not a method for contacting the City, and all messages will have Do Not Reply To This Message at the end.

Residents are also advised that the new SMS System is a supplementary service only and should not be relied upon for emergency planning or in the place of emergency broadcasts. Residents are still responsible for ensuring they remain up-to-date on all fire danger ratings and bushfire emergencies, restrictions and alerts.

Bushfire safety is a priority in the City of Kalamunda and the new Emergency Management SMS System will help to get vital messages about bushfire safety and management to the community much faster.  Residents will be grouped according to their suburb so when messages need to be sent they can be done either City wide or by targeting specific areas.

The System supports existing emergency arrangements with Hazard Management agencies and radio stations and should not be the sole means of receiving notification as it is delivered by a third party provider and the timing and delivery of the messages cannot be guaranteed. The more people that register the more effectively we can disseminate priority information and we urge all residents to contact the City and register.

To register with the City’s Emergency Management SMS System phone the City of Kalamunda on 9257 9999 or email enquiries@kalamunda.wa.gov.au with the subject title “Emergency SMS Registration.” or register below.  For more information contact the City of Kalamunda Ranger Services team on 9257 9999.
