The City of Kalamunda recognises water is a crucial resource, and works to protect its waterways and conserve water consumption. The City participates in the ICLEI Water Campaign, and is recognised as a Waterwise Council. It has adopted a Water Action Plan (Sept 2009) to conserve water and improve water quality the City's operations and the community. The City has a series of brochures and posters [link to What can I do? – Water page] with ideas for what you can do in your household to save water and protect waterways.
In addition the City conducts annual Water Quality Monitoring to obtain a ‘snapshot’ of the health of its waterways and the data collected is fed into the Department of Water’s WIN database.
The City works to protect the habitat of its waterways, through its support for volunteer bushcare Friends Groups its annual Plants for Residents free local native plants giveaway event, through its participation in the Eastern Hills Catchment Management Program, and the ongoing ground work of the City's full-time Bush Care Officer.
