Garage Sale

Garage Sale Trail - 21+22 October 2017

Upcoming Events:

City of Kalamunda is making Garage Sale Trail happen locally on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 October 2017. It’s Australia’s biggest weekend of reuse and community with over 10,000 garage sales, 2 million items listed for sale and over 350,000 sellers and shoppers taking part across the nation.

The event is about encouraging us all to reuse the stuff we no longer want and get to know our community better.   We all know that recycling is great but reusing stuff you no longer want is even better.   It extends the value of the stuff we buy and takes pressure off the planet’s precious resources.

The 2016 Garage Sale Trail was the Citys most successful event to date, with the City of Kalamunda finishing seventh in the state with 63 registered sellers and over 2500 shoppers. The City’s Garage Sale Trail event at Walliston Transfer Station generated a record $3,471.55 which was donated to the Kalamunda Men’s Shed and the Women’s Powder Room.

How does it work?
The Garage Sale Trail is a free program which enables community members to participate by hosting a garage sale or attending one. Residents can attend a garage sale by visiting the Garage Trail Sale website to search for registered garage sales in their local area they can visit.

Residents can host garage sales by registering their garage sale on the Garage Sale Trail website which is then promoted via the website and the smart phone app. Residents wishing to participate in the Garage Sale Trail can register their own garage sale by visiting the website garagesaletrail.com.au.

Will the City host its own events?
Yes. The City of Kalamunda hosts its own Garage Sale Trail event at Walliston Transfer Station. In addition, the City runs another Garage Sale in March each year.

The most recent Garage Sale on 25 March 2017 raised $2,900 with these funds being donated to the Citys Community Grants program which is administered by the Community Development team. More information on the Community Grants programs is available here.

How will the garage sale be promoted?
The organisers of the Garage Sale Trail have created a media partnership with local radio and Community Newspaper Group to promote the program. There is also a Garage Sale Trail Website, smart phone app, Facebook page and twitter feed.
