In The Mix is a music program for emerging young artists looking to develop their skills, collaborate with other young musicians and learn about the West Australian music industry through performing at a large outdoor concert. The program includes music workshops which focus on performance and skill development, song writing and tips for the music industry. The Influence Youth Team are currently looking for local bands, soloists, duets and DJs to take part in the program.
Who is eligible to apply?
Young people aged 10-13 are welcome to apply for this program, however 14-25 year olds will be given priority when booking. We are looking for passionate musicians who are keen to learn and collaborate with other young artists. If you are a singer, play an instrument, DJ or if you are simply interested in learning more about music then In the Mix is for you. Performers are welcome to apply as soloists, duets or bands.
There will be five music workshop held over February and March hosted by Focus Music that will teach participants technical and performance skills, along with giving them the opportunity to collaborate with other local young artists. In 2018, the In the Mix program in 2018 will also cover song writing and tips for breaking into the music industry, including promotion and applying for gigs and grants.
Daryl from Focus Music will be running the workshops. Daryl has a strong background in performing and playing various styles such as Rock, Jazz, Funk, R&B, Reggae and Blue. His skills allow him to help musicians who find themselves in need of learning that little missing piece of information to help them progress their playing to the next level, whatever that level may be.
Participants will be invited to perform at an outdoor music concert on Saturday 10 March 2018 as part of the Corymbia Festival in Forrestfield. This concert will take place on an outdoor stage, with professional sound, lighting and huge crowd supplied. To prepare participants for this big performance a mini concert will take place at Focus Music for friends and family on Saturday 3 March 2018.
