All West Australians Reducing Emergencies (AWARE)
Life has a habit of throwing up surprises from time to time. And inevitably, some of them are unexpected, like the Carmel Fire Works Factory explosion in 2002, the Karragullen/Pickering Brook fire in 2005 and the West Terrace/Persimmon Place fire in 2006.
But what if those unexpected occurrences weren’t surprises? What if you could anticipate community emergencies? What if you had a plan, should the worst happen?
Well that’s what the AWARE (All West Australians Reducing Emergencies) Project is all about.
Developed by FESA (Fire and Emergency Services Authority) in conjunction with Local Government, AWARE has been adopted by the Shire of Kalamunda to identify risks, hazards and potential emergencies within the community, with the aim of formulating emergency risk management plans to reduce their impact in a worse-case scenario.
Stage 1 of the project saw extensive community consultation take place with a final seven (7) risks being selected as priority to Analyse and Evaluate by the AWARE Project Committee during Stage 2. Having recently received further funding approval from FESA, the AWARE Project has commenced with further extensive community consultation to occur during the process.
