New Council Formed

The City of Kalamunda Council has welcomed some new faces, with the election on Saturday, followed by the swearing in of Councillors on Monday 23 October 2017.

Geoffrey Stallard and Dylan O’Connor were both re-elected for another 4-year term, joined by new Councillors David Almond, Lesley Boyd, Cameron Blair and Margaret Thomas.

Cr John Giardina was elected as Mayor, with Cr Dylan O’Connor the deputy.

Mayor Giardina thanked his Councillors for electing him to lead Council for the next 2 years saying, “I am deeply humbled and honoured to accept this position.”

“I was first elected to Council in 1990 and whilst I have always been very satisfied serving our community as a Councillor I felt that the time was right to step up and apply my experience and knowledge to move our Council forward and improve our image within the community.”

“I care deeply about our community. I have lived within the Shire (now city) of Kalamunda my whole life, growing up in High Wycombe and then raising my family in Lesmurdie.”

“Over the past years there have been many changes and whilst we all know that progression is inevitable I also know that many in our community like to be more engaged with the changes and decisions we make.”

“I will work closely with all councillors and the CEO to fulfill our community's expectations and achieve our goals. That will be the agenda I intend to drive.”

“One team pursuing our goals together. It will be an exciting time for this council and the administration.”

“I would like to sincerely thank our former Mayor Andrew Waddell for his significant contribution during his term in office.”

“Of particular note was progressing the Forrestfield industrial estate and lobbying the state government for the $86 million in funding for the Kalamunda Road overpass.”

“Commiserations to the councillors that were not returned - I'd like to thank them for their contribution to their communities during their term of office.”

“To our newly elected Councillors ... Congratulations. You bring new knowledge, new and fresh ideas and I know you will be an asset for this community.”

“I wish to thank our CEO Rhonda Hardy whom I have come to know over the years. She has been a safe pair of hands and is highly respected amongst her staff and councillors. I know that together we will make a good leadership team.”

“Finally, I would like to thank my wife Rose for her ongoing support."

“Again, it is truly a great honour to serve as your Mayor of this great City. I will lead fairly. I appreciate your ideas and will seek your consensus on issues.”

The Ceremony was officiated by Justice Michael Murray.
