Would you like to find out more about the good old days in the foothills?

Please join us at the at the Forrestfield Library on Thursday 25 May 2017 for the Fabulous Foothills workshop from 2:00pm to 3:30pm as members of the Kalamunda and Districts Historical Society take us on a journey through history.

President Jenny Lewis and Executive Committee Member Marie Garwood will take us on a captivating journey through time from the early to late 20th century, sharing photographs and stories of life in the Foothills’ suburbs in the early days.

Both women have a strong family history in the Shire of Kalamunda. Jenny’s grandparents were Harry and Jessie Jorgensen and her uncle was Hedley Jorgensen, after whom Jorgensen Park was named. Marie’s family is the Hutchison family who were also early settlers in the district.

A member of the Historical Society for 34 years Jenny Lewis said, “We will be sharing lots of interesting information on the development, society and culture of the area.”

“We’ll start off in the pre 1920s with an old photo of Crystal Brook Road when it was only a sand track, moving across to Wattle Grove Hall, then to the bottom of the Falls in Forrestfield, then across to Maia Vale and a little bit of High Wycombe, finishing off with some great early photos of Kalamunda Road.”

“Our presentation will be very interactive and we encourage people to come and share their memories and stories, and bring along any old photos they may have of the foothills region,” she said.

“We are always looking for more images for our Local History Collection, particularly from the foothills. We don’t have any photos of the original Maida Vale School, and would love to see some of these if anyone has one.”

The Kalamunda and Districts Historical Society has a strong Oral History Group and are also always on the lookout for interesting people to interview about the early days of the region.

Jenny Lewis said, ”If you have a relative or know someone with an early knowledge of the region we would love to hear from you, either at the Fabulous Foothills workshop or by contacting the Society.”
