Councillor Simon Di Rosso has resigned from the Shire of Kalamunda Council.
In accordance with the Local Government Act 1995, Council has requested approval from the WA Electoral Commissioner to postpone an election for the vacancy in the North Ward following his resignation, until the ordinary Election Day of 21 October 2017.
Statutory requirements for the conduct of an election requires a minimum lead time of 70 days. The earliest possible date for an election would be in early July 2017 - resulting in any new member taking up the position - having a term of only three months before contesting in an election again in October.
Shire President Andrew Waddell said: “We thank Simon for his service during his time on Council. Appointing a new Councillor to sit between now and October would be unnecessary and costly.”
“Council believes the remaining two councillors can adequately represent the Ward over this period until the October elections.”
