The City of Kalamunda is inviting comment on the draft 10-year+ vision for the future of the Kalamunda town centre, outlined in the Kalamunda Activity Centre Plan (KACP).

The City is progressing an activity centre plan for Kalamunda to ensure any new subdivision or development aligns with the envisaged design framework and character of development for the area and to assist the City with coordinating improvements over the next 10 years.

Mayor John Giardina is encouraging all members of the community to look at the draft plan, explore some of the proposed improvements and themes, and provide their comments.”

“All the feedback received from the community so far on this draft plan has shaped the proposed developments and themes for enhancing Kalamunda, so I encourage anyone who interacts with the Kalamunda town centre to have their say now and be involved in the next steps,” said Mayor John Giardina.

“There is a great deal of opportunity to enhance our iconic town and this plan offers a vision and actions for our shared future. It’s exciting to see all the great ideas come together, many from the public, in a considered plan to help us realise Kalamunda’s potential to be a unique, attractive and ‘talked about’ place to visit, work, play and live for visitors and locals alike. The plan is currently in draft form and we would really value your feedback to assist the City with shaping the vision.”

The activity centre planning process explores the needs of the diverse range of people interacting with the town centre in different ways, as well as various policy and planning requirements.

The draft ‘Place Vision’ in the plan states, “Kalamunda is a place borne of community spirit with a strong connection to its heritage. The town centre serves as a gateway to the hills and as a hub connecting both locals and visitors alike. Its natural bushland setting, and traditional village atmosphere are a platform to enhance Kalamunda’s unique offerings, activities and events and provides spaces for community interactions and neighbourhood conversations.”

The KACP involved an extensive period of community and business consultation and engagement throughout 2018, resulting in the identification of a range of diverse needs and ideas that have been incorporated into the draft.
