The City of Kalamunda has committed to enhancing community wellbeing through social and cultural opportunities with the adoption of its new ‘Creative Communities – An Arts Strategy’.

The Strategy, adopted in late June, drives activation of cultural facilities, participation in the arts, economic diversification and improvement of visual amenity in shared spaces.

Mayor John Giardina said, “Our community is passionate about culture and creativity, which is why this Strategy is so important. It’s also why our community have been so heavily involved in its development.

“I would like to thank the Kalamunda Arts Advisory Committee, a group of dedicated community members who have led this project and have been integral to its success.

“I would also like to thank the City of Kalamunda community, who took the time to get involved and provide their input during the consultation process, ensuring we ended up with a Strategy that reflects the vision and values of our community as a whole.

“By achieving the objectives in this Strategy, we will add to the attractiveness and value of Kalamunda as a place to live and visit, and in turn create a community spirit that is stronger than ever. We are very excited about a future in which creative practise is at the heart of our neighbourhoods.”

The vision of the Arts Strategy is to nurture and grow involvement by the community as spectators, motivators and creators of uplifting and transforming activities through arts events and experiences. Each of these will add to the City’s visual appeal, strengthen sense-of-place, diversify the economy and elevate arts practice that is accessible, challenging and engaging.
