The City of Kalamunda is currently calling for up-and-coming local bands, soloists, duets and DJs to take part in their annual youth music program, In the Mix. In The Mix is for emerging young artists looking to develop their skills, collaborate with other young musicians and learn about the West Australian music industry.
Mayor John Giardina said, “This is a great program, that has had proven success in giving young people the opportunity to grow, increasing both knowledge and confidence needed to perform in front of a crowd.”
“In 2017 sixteen young people aged between 12 and 22 took part in In the Mix, recalling the final performance at Corymbia Festival as a definite highlight.”
“The In the Mix program in 2018 will also cover song writing and tips for breaking into the music industry, including promotion and applying for gigs and grants.”
There will be five music workshops held over February and March hosted by Focus Music that will teach participants technical and performance skills, along with giving them the opportunity to collaborate with other local young artists.
In the Mix will conclude with a live performance at an outdoor music concert on Saturday 10 March 2018 as part of the Corymbia Multicultural Festival at Hartfield Park in Forrestfield.
