Former West Coast Eagles player and Brownlow Medallist, Matt Priddis, joined some of the City’s most talented young sportspeople at the City of Kalamunda Administration Building to share his story in youth sport and congratulate winners of the 2018 Kalamunda Sports Star Awards.
Mayor John Giardina said, “We would like to sincerely thank Mr Matt Priddis for joining the City of Kalamunda in celebrating the achievements of our region’s young sportspeople and for providing valuable insight into the life of professional sport. We’re proud to be able to continue our support of young athletes in their elite sport pursuits through the Kalamunda Sports Star Awards.”
The awards provide a one-off financial contribution to local athletes under the age of 25 who represent their sport at a state or national level. Recipients of this years’ awards include 73 athletes from 22 different sports. Combined, they received over $15,000 in grants from the City to support them on their journey.
Mayor John Giardina explained the City of Kalamunda was passionate about connecting the community to sport and recreation.
“We believe sport and recreation builds stronger, healthier, happier, safer and more vibrant connected communities.”
“Supporting the sport and recreational needs of our community now and into the future is a key focus for the City, which is why our focus is far reaching. In addition to grants, the City also focuses on the provision of resources and infrastructure.
“We’re in the process of reviewing our Community Facilities Plan, which provides a framework for resource provision. To do so, we need your feedback on the facilities in our community. What works and what needs improvement? I urge everyone to take our online survey before the feedback period closes.”
