Food Safety
Food Premises Inspections
The Shire’s Health Service conducts regular unannounced inspections of all food premises (including temporary stalls and food transport vehicles) within the Shire. The inspections ensure that the food premises and the way in which the food is handled comply with relevant legislation.
Food Complaint

In matters of suspected food poisoning and to help our officer’s investigation please provide and undertake the following:
Store any uneaten portions of the suspect food in a sealed container in the refrigerator.
Provide details of the food such as where and when it was purchased.
Provide a list of all food consumed within the past 72 hours.

Food Sampling
The Shire of Kalamunda conducts a Food Sampling Program to monitor the quality of food sold within the Shire. Samples are collect by an Environmental Health Officer and are subject to either chemical or microbiological analysis. Foods are tested to determine if they comply with the Food Standard Code in terms of quality, composition and labelling requirements.
Food Handler Training – FoodSafe® Program
The Shire of Kalamunda supports and promotes the FoodSafe ® Food Handler Training Program which provides education in basic food safety. Food premises successfully implementing the program are awarded the FoodSafe® Certificate. Regular audits are conducted to ensure that the FoodSafe® standard is being maintained and if the standards fall the Certificate is removed. To check whether the food premise you use is FoodSafe accredited, look for the FoodSafe® logo.
