Title:
Wet ‘n’ Wild receives highly anticipated Upgrade

Content:

Wet ‘n’ Wild has received a much needed upgraded, at an estimated cost of 1.5million. The project, one that the Shire of Kalamunda has vigorously pursued in an attempt to fulfill community expectations, has included a $544000 Federal Grant as well as a contribution of $928000 from Council’s Building Reserve.

The project has been staged in two parts. Stage 1 is expected to be completed prior to opening this year (Toddlers pool may be a few weeks into the season). The season may be a week or so later then usual, but at this stage, it is anticipated that it will be on time. The Shire of Kalamunda has programmed Stage 2 of the works to commence at the end of the season (April 2010) so that any disruption to the operating of the pool over the summer period is minimized.

Shire of Kalamunda Manager of Operations Simon Miller said, “Stage 1 works are almost complete and have included an  upgrade to the Toddlers Pool, including chlorination and filtration turn over, water looses and repaint, upgrade kiosk to meet Health and operational requirements, upgrade change rooms for aesthetic purposes, as well as repairs to plumbing, the removal and replacement of existing bleacher seating with compliant seating, including shading, repainting of pools and surrounds, general landscaping, replacement of the boundary fence, installation of covers over balance tanks, improved Occupational Safety & Health signage, the repair of the quad slide and replacement of the slide access ramp, including wind screening and main platform.”

“Stage two works include the replacement of the main pool filtration and chlorination systems, repairing the “return to pool” and pump lines, repairing the main pool spine.”

The Shire of Kalamunda also hopes to address the issue of water temperature, with future plans including the purchasing of solar blankets that will improve both the Summer temp, as well as reduce the rate of end-of-season cooling.
