As a result of the Shire of Kalamunda Ward Boundary Review, changes have been gazetted to the ward system within the Shire. As of the 17th of October the Shire of Kalamunda will be comprised of 4 wards, each with three Councillors.
CEO James Trail said, “The revised ward structure has a better distribution of Councillors, with a more equitable number of electors per Councillor. In particular, the High Wycombe area currently has two Councillors, and will have three under the new structure.”
The wards are defined as follows:
· North West Ward – High Wycombe, the Western portion of Maida Vale, and an area of Forrestfield north of Berkshire Road
· South West Ward – the remainder of Forrestfield, Wattle Grove and Kewdale
· North Ward – the Eastern portion of Maida Vale, Gooseberry Hill, and the majority of Kalamunda
· South East Ward – the South-Eastern portion of Kalamunda, Lesmurdie, Walliston, Carmel, Canning Mills, Pickering Brook, Bickley, Reservoir, Hacketts Gully, Paulls Valley and Pickering Brook
The Shire of Kalamunda currently has 12 Councillors, each representing a ward. The following Councillors, whose terms end in 2011, will represent the following wards –
Cr Allan Morton - South West Ward
Cr Maureen Robinson - South West Ward
Cr Peter Heggie - North West Ward
Cr Margaret Thomas - North Ward
Cr Frank Lindsey - South East Ward
Cr Carol Everett - South East Ward
The Shire of Kalamunda currently has six Councillors whose terms are set to expire in October 2009, this includes Cr David Sadler, Cr Pauline Tonkin, Cr John Giardina, Cr Elizabeth Taylor Cr Donald McKechnie and Cr Martyn Cresswell.
The local government election will take place on Saturday 17 October 2009. At the election there will be 2 vacancies in both the North West Ward and the North Ward and 1 vacancy in both the South West Ward and the South East Ward.
Following the local government Election there will be three Councillors representing each of the new wards.
