On Wednesday the 14th of October the Shire of Kalamunda held an Inaugural Sport and Recreation Forum, in the Function Room of the Shire of Kalamunda Administration, 2 Railway Road in Kalamunda.
The event was officially opened by Shire President Donald McKechnie, and was attended by Staff from the Shire of Kalamunda as well as representatives from local community groups including Forrestfield & Districts Bowling Club, Kalamunda Tennis Club, Kalamunda District Hockey Club, Forrestfield Junior Football Club, High Wycombe Little Athletics Club, Kalamunda & Districts Senior Football Club, Kalamunda Pistol Club, Range View Park Tennis Club, Maida Vale Tennis Club, Kalamunda Club (Bowls), Hills District Softball Association Inc, High Wycombe Cricket Club, High Wycombe Amateur Football Club and Kalamunda Small Bore Rifle Club.
Shire President Donald McKechnie said, “The aim of forum was to provide an opportunity for clubs to network, to discuss progress and find common ground, to receive updates and to discuss topics of interest.”
The forum was immensely successful with the Shire of Kalamunda updating groups on Sport and Recreation on current Sport and Recreation projects within the Shire, as well as providing an opportunity for groups to provide updates and source information on a wide range of Sport and Recreation topics.
A majority of the projects completed by Shire of Kalamunda and clubs are funded by Community Sport & Recreation Facilities Fund through the Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR). Current recently completed Sport and Recreation projects include the Reid Oval Lighting Project, Lesmurdie Tennis Club and Foothills Netball Association Resurfacing, Extension of Ray Owen Sports Centre, Hartfield Park Lighting Project, Kalamunda Club Bowling Club Greens, Scott Reserve Upgrade, Hartfield Park Masterplan, Pioneer Park Upgrade and the Fleming Reserve Upgrade.
Shire of Kalamunda Manager of Community Development Darren Jones said, “ In looking forward Shire of Kalamunda Community Development staff are focused on building the skills and strength of Sport & Recreation Clubs through relevant and timely Skills Workshops, encouraging Clubs to develop 5yr Forward Plans to support funding applications and approaches to Council plus enhancing the profile of Sport and Recreation within the community.”
