Two Youth Spaces in Forrestfield and High Wycombe are operating as a part of the Shire of Kalamunda Youth Outreach Program. The Outreach program provides an array of support services including confidential informal counselling and support with personal issues, as well as social activities like pool, XBox, art, basketball and the use of mobile skate ramps at Forrestfield.
In January 2006, the Shire of Kalamunda and Parkerville Children and Youth Care Inc. formed a Service Agreement, providing a youth outreach service in High Wycombe and Forrestfield. By modelling the Parkerville Children and Youth Care values of caring, hope, integrity and respect, the Shire of Kalamunda’s youth outreach service continues to provide a positive environment and support service for young people, their community and for each other. The success of the program is due to the continued sense of ownership and contribution experienced by and for the young people involved.
The Shire of Kalamunda continues to support the Youth Outreach Service with a contribution of $12,100 to the project between January 2007 to June 2007. To assist the Forrestfield youth service, Forrestfield Photographics have also recently donated $500 for equipment at the Forrestfield Youth Space, highlighting fantastic outcomes for the youth services. These outcomes are achieved when partnerships are formed between not for profit community organisations, local government and business, for the collective benefit of the whole community.
The Youth Spaces are open to young people aged 13 – 21 years, and all activities are free of charge.
The youth space opening hours are:
3.30 – 6.30 pm Tuesdays at the Anderson Road Community Centre, 24 Anderson Road, Forrestfield.
3.30 – 6.30 pm Mondays and Wednesdays at the High Wycombe Recreation and Community Centre , Newburn Road, High Wycombe.
