Shire Invites Prospective Councillors to find out more

The Shire of Kalamunda is inviting prospective Councillors to a community workshop at 6pm on Tuesday the 1st of September 2009.  The workshop will be held at the Shire of Kalamunda Administration, 2 Railway Road in Kalamunda.

Shire of Kalamunda CEO James Trail said, “We strongly encouraged active community members, or anyone with an interest in becoming a Councillor to come along to the prospective Councillors community workshop and ensure that they have all the information available to assist and educate in determining the way forward.”

At the workshop members of the community will be able to find out about the role of a Councillor. A special guest speaker from the WA Electoral Commission will be on hand to provide an explanation of process and prospective candidates will have the opportunity to have their queries heard and answered.

The local government elections will be held on the 17th of October 2009. At the election there will be 2 vacancies in both the North West Ward and the North Ward and 1 vacancy in both the South West Ward and the South East Ward.

The wards in the Shire of Kalamunda are defined as follows:

·         North West Ward – High Wycombe, the Western portion of Maida Vale, and an area of Forrestfield north of Berkshire Road

·         South West Ward – the remainder of Forrestfield, Wattle Grove and Kewdale

·         North Ward – the Eastern portion of Maida Vale, Gooseberry Hill, and the majority of Kalamunda

·         South East Ward – the South-Eastern portion of Kalamunda, Lesmurdie, Walliston, Carmel, Canning Mills, Pickering Brook, Bickley, Reservoir, Hacketts Gully, Paulls Valley and Pickering Brook
