Seniors Celebrate Royal Show Week at Peter Anderton

Shire of Kalamunda Seniors at the Peter Anderton Centre in Forrestfield were in for the treat of the year last week when they celebrated ‘Royal Show Week.’ With the real show on every ones minds staff decided to transform the Adult Day Centre into a mini show, with Sideshow Alley, Exhibitions, Cake Decorating, Home made produce, music and entertainment, farm animals including baby chicks and a miniature pony and a fashion parade – just to name a few of the exciting undertakings for the week.

Shire of Kalamunda Manager of Adult Day Services Ian Daly said, “It was a fantastic week and our residents thoroughly enjoyed themselves. As well as residents from the Shire of Kalamunda the day centre also had visits from many other Adult Day Centres including Queens Park. A real highlight was the side show alley that staff had created, including the Plate Smashing – which was more therapeutic than one may imagine, hammering and the Fairy Floss!”

“The whole week was a huge success and I would like to congratulate aloof the staff who were involved, from the original concept, to the programming and delivery of the events. The big finale was on Saturday when we invited the clients, carer’s families and friends to attend an Open Day showcasing the centre and all we had done during the week.”

“We must also pay tribute to all of the local businesses who supported us including Webster Packs, Red Cross, Berry Sweet Strawberry Farm, Ray Edwards, Neverfail Springwater Ltd, Whistlers Chocolate Factory, Blockbuster Video , Video Easy, Woolworths Kalamunda, Crabbs IGA Kalamunda, Mitre 10 Forrestfield, Twin Hill Wines, Duckstein Brewery, Edgecombe Brothers, The Wine Place, Henley Park Wines, Vino Italia, FESA, Constable Care, RAS Perth WA, Jane Brook Wines and Matsos Brewery.”

Royal Show Week was only one of the many themed activities happening at Peter Anderton each year. Every day at the Peter Anderton Centre, located on Anderson Road in Forrestfield, the dedicated staff had programmed a series of events and entertainment to thrill, delight and amuse their lucky visitors.

The Shire of Kalamunda's Adult Day Centre operates Monday to Saturday and provides a wide range of services for frail, aged and younger people with disabilities funded by State and Commonwealth Government initiatives.
