Shoppers have been delighting in the quaint medieval atmosphere of the Kalamunda Farmers Market for seven months now as the market has grown from strength to strength. With a new market layout and over 30 stalls on an average week and an array of fresh produce, including asparagus, snow peas, beans, organic breads, local jams and conserves, pickles, fudge, eggs, meat and seafood, the market provides a fresh local option for consumers wanting farm fresh produce from local producers.
Lesmurdie Resident Chrissie Whitfield said, I think the Farmers Market is still an undiscovered gem. I have been attending for the last few weekends and cant believe the value and price.
I am a mother of 4 and value means everything these days.
Last Sunday I picked up a large gourmet lettuce for a dollar, a large bag of baby English spinach leaves for $2.00, 1kg of Carrots for $1.00, an Avocado for 50c and a range of great other goodies, including the sweetest strawberries I have tried this season.
I think the best thing for me is that the produce seems to last for much longer than when I buy it from the shop. It also tastes fresher. I am definitely hooked and will be going each week from now on.
The Kalamunda Farmers Market Committee also arrange weekly Chef Demonstrations using local seasonal produce at 9.30am and 11am each Sunday morning. Demonstrations are aimed to inspire consumers to use fresh seasonal produce in their own cooking with easy and interesting recipe ideas and tips. Last week the market had celebrity chef Jason Jugnovich from Divido Restaurant and coming up this month residents can enjoy the Kids Cooking Class, conducted by Out of Africa on November 8th. A proposed Bush Tucker Demonstration with Mike House will be held on the 15th and the debut of Porkstar on the 29th of November.
