This year Walk the Zig Zag is all about the Earth! Let’s get walking, get keen and live green. That is the message of this years’ annual Walk the Zig Zag. The very popular event returns on Sunday October 4.
With wild flowers in full bloom and a range of free activities for the kids, entertainment at every bend of the Zig Zag, Camel Rides, Displays, and more Walk the Zig Zag fun day for the whole family.
Event Coordinator Marilyn Keys said, “The event is an experience which celebrates walking in an unspoilt environment, providing a spectacular view of Perth City. Come and join us for the day, there are many activities for kids, displays, entertainment, an exciting brand new art installation segment and of course some amazing views. And it’s all free! ”
“The best thing of all is that it is an event that all members of the community can participate in regardless of their level of fitness. The 3 km downhill walk is invigorating, educational and above all is fun! Walk the Zig Zag is Wheelchair friendly, and the walk caters for all physical abilities.”
Bring the whole family and gain a greater insight to how simple it is to make a difference in our everyday lives to combat climate change as well as saving money. Our sustainability journey starts in the home with some simple everyday philosophies relating to how much time we spend in the shower, how we recycle our rubbish, how we shop and Walk the Zig Zag 2009 plans to get us thinking about our Environmental footstep, whilst having fun, getting fit and being entertained at the same time. What more could one want?
A free Park and Ride will operate on the day taking residents and visitors alike from the Park and Ride locations at Stirk Park and Maida Vale Reserve to the top of the Zig Zag will set you on your way. Buses depart from both park and ride locations from 8:30 to 12:00 midday. Those embarking on the journey will then be returned to their park and ride locations upon reaching the bottom of the Zig Zag.
Walk the Zig Zag is a highlight on the Shire of Kalamunda events calendar and marks the beginning of Zig Zag month in the Shire. Other event happening over the month include the Spring in the Hills Gem Camera Club Inaugural Photographic Exhibition on the 10th and 11th of October, Kalamunda Open Studios and the Cosham Slow Food Bounty Picnic on the 18th of October, with the month coming to an end with a bang on Sunday the 25th of October when the Shire hosts the annual Antiques and Collectors Fair and Zig Zag Community Arts present the Zig Zag Festival for 2009 at Stirk Park in Kalamunda.
