Title:
Fleming Reserve Upgrade Pushes Full Steam Ahead

Content:

The upgrade of Fleming Reserve in High Wycombe is pushing full steam ahead, with the recent appointment of Project Coordinator May Carter. May has been involved since the inception of the Fleming Reserve project and facilitated much community consultation and development of the concept plan through the High Wycombe Community Association.  Her new role with the Shire is to manage the final design and construction stages of the redevelopment project.

Shire of Kalamunda CEO James Trail said, “Fleming Reserve occupies a 5.8ha parcel of land within High Wycombe and includes an area of remnant bushland, skate park and dirt BMX track, small playground, BBQ area, and an oval that can be used for community events and junior sport.  More than 2000 people live within a 500 metre radius of the park boundaries. “

“Over the next three years, Fleming Reserve will be redeveloped as an inter-generational community space that encourages physical activity, relaxation and social interaction.  It is envisaged that the local community will be involved in the redevelopment of the reserve and Friends of Fleming Reserve will play an active role in caring for its new playground, skate park, gardens and bushland.”

May certainly has a passion for the project and wants to ensure a positive outcome for the High Wycombe Community.

“It is extremely important that redevelopment of this reserve involves all residents. The concept plan design evolved through extensive community consultation with people of all ages.  Engaging the High Wycombe community in caring for this place and generating pride in Fleming Reserve through providing good quality facilities are key aspects of this redevelopment project.” May said.

May is a Shire of Kalamunda resident.  She has extensive experience in community development and recently completed a PhD project that explored relationships between peoples’ perceptions and use of local bushland, parks and other green spaces and their health.  She is committed to ensuring that High Wycombe residents and the Shire of Kalamunda design and build new park facilities that make the community proud.
