Financial Assistance Grants Awarded

Each year, as part of its annual Budget, the Shire of Kalamunda sets aside funds to assist a wide range of projects and activities that have been identified by the community. This year the Shire of Kalamunda has awarded Financial Assistance for Community Initiatives to four recipients. These four organisations have each received funding of up to $1000 to assist in local projects which will benefit people living in the Shire.

The Financial Assistance Program aims to support community initiatives and projects that address local issues, provide donations for charitable purposes, support state sporting team representatives, strengthen the community and enhance the wellbeing of Shire of Kalamunda residents.

Chief Executive Officer David Vaughan said, “This year the funds will be used for a variety of activities, assisting these organisations to support local families, purchase essential equipment and provide the opportunity to maintain and enhance historical items and information within the shire. I would like to congratulate all of the groups who were successful in receiving grants.”

The groups to receive funding in the latest round of Financial Assistance Grants  include:

$1000 to the Foothills Information & Referral Service - in conjunction with the Foothills Early Years Community Partnership, they are producing an Early Years 2008 Calendar. This calendar will depict local support services and events for families within the Shire of Kalamunda. It is a great way to distribute information to families who otherwise may not be aware of the types of services available to them.

$500 to the Lesmurdie Ratepayers Association (LRA) - A number of years ago a series of lectures/workshops were held by leading world environmentalists and supporting speakers within the Shire of Kalamunda.  The LRA will transcribe the information onto CD’s and hard copies as they contain valuable historical data.

$1000 to the Kalamunda & Districts Historical Society - This group will send five volunteers from the Kalamunda History Village to professional museum training provided through short courses run by Edith Cowan University - Museum Studies.  Volunteers for the Kalamunda & Districts Historical Society promote the collection, preservation, research, publication and interchange of historical material within the Shire of Kalamunda.

$1000 to the Kalamunda & District Toy Library - The Toy Library sought funding to purchase workstation tables with compatibility for computer usage and storage and two gas lift office chairs to enhance the service area and improve volunteer safety and efficiency.  The Kalamunda and District Toy Library currently services the local community by providing the opportunity for parents to interact, volunteer and offer stimulating experiences for 0-8 year olds.
