Shire of Kalamunda Celebrates Children’s Book Week
Children’s Book Week will be held between the 17th and 24th August. The Kalamunda Library Service is hosting an opening night on the 17th in the Kalamunda Library during which winners of the Children’s Book Week art competition are presented with their prizes.
During Children’s Book Week the four Shire Libraries have organized a series of sessions for the primary schools within the Shire which will feature several guest children’s literary figures. Glenn Swift, a storyteller renowned for his lively and interactive tales and his personal brand of ‘creative silliness’, is the guest presenter at the opening night; earlier in the day he will be enthralling younger students from three of the local primary schools.
Karen Treanor, local author of ‘Scoot Scoot Bandicoot’ often treats her young audience to a ‘hands on’ bandicoot experience during her author talks. Karen will be at Forrestfield Library on Thursday 23rd August.
Simon Haynes, author of the riotously entertaining Hal Spacejock Series of science fiction novels for the middle primary years, will discuss his anti-hero’s antics during his library visits at High Wycombe, Forrestfield and Kalamunda on Wednesday, 22nd August.
Geoff Havel, a Perth teacher and author, is well known for his work in promoting literacy. Geoff will be at High Wycombe and Forrestfield libraries on Tuesday 21st August.
Aleisha Zappia is an art director and graphic designer who is a passionate freelance illustrator and plans to talk through both the techniques and processes used to launch a humble first sketch into a fully fledged illustration. Aleisha will visit all of the Shire libraries on Monday 20th August.
Doug MacLeod, author of ‘Sister Madge’s Book of Nuns’, one of the most popular children’s books in Australia, and ‘Tumble Turn’, his comic rites-of-passage title for teen readers, has been listed on the syllabus of the primary school teaching course at Deakin University. He will be in the Shire at our libraries on Thursday 23rd August.
