Banners in the Terrace
Congratulations to Caitlin Pickles from Kalamunda Senior High School, who is the winner of the Shire of Kalamunda’s Banners in the Terrace Competition for 2008. Second place was awarded to Luke Balchin also of Kalamunda SHS and third to Shirley Spencer from the Kalamunda Stained Glass Group.
Each year the Shire of Kalamunda invites local primary and high schools as well as other community groups to submit designs. These banners are then judged by Councillors to determine a winner.
Shire of Kalamunda Chief Executive Officer David Vaughan said, “As always the banner designs submitted were off an extremely high calibre and showcased the artistic talent present in the Shire. I am glad I was not on the judging panel!”
Caitlin’s design will now be created and represent the Shire of Kalamunda in the annual, “Banners in the Terrace.” The Shire of Kalamunda have provided the blank banner and materials to paint the design. This year’s theme was Making Our World Work
The banner will be on display from the 27th July till the 9th August in St Georges Terrace as part of Local Government Week. Banners in the Terrace is one of the State’s largest single community arts projects, and last year 95 banners from all over the State were on display in Perth.
